Privacy notice

This notice explains what happens to your personal information when you contact Code for Good through this website. It is written to meet our obligations under Articles 13 and 14 of the UK GDPR.

Who we are

Code for Good is a web design studio based in St Albans, Hertfordshire. We are the data controller for the information described on this page, which means we decide why and how it is used.

Placeholder — to complete before publishing: registered company name and number, registered address, and ICO registration number.

You can reach us about anything on this page at hello@code-for-good.co.uk.

What we collect, and why

We only collect what you choose to send us. If you fill in the contact form, we receive:

We use this for one purpose: to respond to your enquiry and, if it goes further, to discuss and carry out work for you. We do not use it for marketing, we do not build a profile from it, and we do not sell or share it with anyone for their own purposes.

The form also contains a hidden field that real visitors never see or fill in. It exists to catch automated spam, and anything submitted in it is discarded rather than stored.

Our lawful basis

We rely on legitimate interests (UK GDPR Article 6(1)(f)) to read and answer enquiries sent to us: you have contacted us expecting a reply, and answering you is the reason the form exists. If we go on to work together, we rely on contract (Article 6(1)(b)) for the information needed to deliver that work.

Please do not send us special category data — for example anything about health, ethnicity, religion or political views — through this form. It is not the right channel for it, and we have no need for it.

How long we keep it

Enquiries arrive as email in our inbox. We keep enquiries that do not lead to work for [placeholder — 12 or 24 months], then delete them. Where we do go on to work together, we keep the correspondence for as long as we are working together and for [placeholder — 6 years] afterwards, which is the period we may need it for tax and legal purposes.

Who else is involved

This site is hosted on Amazon Web Services, and the contact form is delivered by Amazon Simple Email Service. AWS therefore processes your message on our behalf, under a contract that permits them to use it only for that purpose. AWS operates worldwide; where data leaves the UK it is covered by the safeguards in the UK's international transfer rules.

The site loads its typeface from Google Fonts. That means your browser makes a request to Google's servers, which necessarily reveals your IP address to Google. Nothing else about you is sent, and we receive nothing back from it.

Our web server keeps standard access logs, including IP addresses, for security and to keep the site working. These are not used to identify individual visitors.

Cookies and analytics

This site sets no cookies. We use no analytics, no advertising trackers, no social media pixels, and nothing that stores information on your device. That is why you have not been asked to consent to anything — there is nothing to consent to.

If that ever changes, we will ask for your consent before any non-essential cookie is set, and this notice will be updated first.

Your rights

Over the information we hold about you, you have the right to:

To exercise any of these, email us at hello@code-for-good.co.uk. We will respond within one month. There is no charge.

If you are unhappy with how we have handled your information, you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk or on 0303 123 1113. We would rather you came to us first so we can put it right.

Changes to this notice

If we change how we handle personal information, we will update this page and change the date above. Where the change is significant, we will say so here rather than leave you to spot it.
